[ Well, Sonia definitely had run into Conner while out and about, and she's fairly certain Korra already knew...but all the same, she makes an effort to run her roommate to ground afterwards, hoping that maybe there'll be a genuine smile on Korra's face.
She'll check the block first, and then move outwards from it, since she can't simply call and ask, with the phones glitching out. ]
[Korra's actually just coming back from Conner's when Sonia checks the apartment, and she might catch a stupidly happy smile on Korra's face before she can compose herself.
Ahem.]
Uh--Sonia! Hey. [No, she's not nervously fidgeting or anything, why do you ask.] D-did you need something?
[ ...oh my god Korra you need lying lessons, Sonia's eyebrows have only raised. It might be something she'd skip over if not for the translation in effect, really - Sonia never has trouble understanding people here, even if her mastery of local idiom is occasionally shaky. ]
[Wow this subject change didn't work in her favor at all.
Korra just freezes up for a second, color seeping back into her cheeks again.]
I...yeah, I saw him. I stayed over with Kon and Zee yesterday to make sure he revived, remember?
[It's still pretty new, being this fidgety and fluttery or something--well, someone. The last time had been over Mako, back when she first moved to Republic City. Now that seems like a long time ago.]
[It's a little muffled, what with her hands still covering her face. But she peeks up at Sonia after a second.]
We might be dating now. Well. As much as you can date in Haven, I guess. [Korra slowly lowers her hands, a tentative smile on her face.] It's...not really a secret. I just don't think we're going to be telling everyone we see.
[ Muffled, but still audible. And suddenly it's so...normal. "As must as you can date in Haven", yes, but...it's a conversation that's not about burying the dead or planning raids or Yao.
Sometimes Sonia forgets how much she misses having conversations like that. It's not that she never has them, but everything is colored by taking place in Haven, and this is...
Honestly the most normal thing she's heard in weeks. Even though she'd never really had any friends to gossip about boys with, Sonia feels like this is what a normal girl would do. Right?
There are a thousand not-normal things she could say. Korra and Conner are from different worlds, and someday that may be a bad thing; they're in Haven, and it could be used against them, because everything could be, up to and including any friendship, even Sonia's; the list goes on and on. But Korra knows those things, and Sonia doesn't even want to say them. She has more important questions: ]
[She's definitely considered all of that and more, and it was the reason she'd been so hesitant at first. But then Conner had gone and got himself torn up by hell hounds (with dubious chances of returning to Haven with his soul intact) and that had made her reconsider.
Her cheeks still feel warm, but she's almost starting to get used to it, with the number of times she's gotten flustered over Conner recently.]
...yeah. [Judging by how giddy she feels, even some time after she's left his side, it's safe to say the answer is yes.]
I...I mean, I think so. I've only kissed a guy once before this and that was M-- [Korra cuts herself off sheepishly. Sometimes she forgets she can't just spill all this stuff like she did before, now that Mako's actually here, too.]
Mako? [ Sonia did meet the guy, and he's an "M" name from Korra's world. ] Well, you have also kissed me. But since I did not really get a chance to kiss back, it was not a good showing of my skills.
[ sonia, again. why. ]
As long as you enjoyed it, he was a good kisser, though! [ And she's kissed boys before, so Sonia is an authority here.
Although not the boy she most wanted to kiss, because...murder island. That's pretty much the entire reason. Also he had a Thing about people touching him. ]
I didn't realize you liked him, but...I am happy for you, Korra.
[Korra bites her lip. Whoops. She probably should've guessed that Sonia would be able to figure it out. She did almost blurt his name out.]
Yeah, Mako. It's...kind of a touchy subject for him, though, so you probably shouldn't mention it around him.
[Now she relaxes, a smile lighting up her face.]
I tried to ignore it, and then...all this happened. Someone else told me I should just go for it and take whatever good thing I could get here. It might be selfish, but...the way he died this time really scared me. I didn't know if he was going to come back or not.
I will keep it quiet. [ That's easy enough to promise quickly.
Sonia's own smile changes. It's still present, and mostly genuine, but there's something behind it, and in her eyes, that seems a little off. Maybe sad. ]
They were correct. Even if it is a selfish wish...you never know how much time you will have with people. You should grasp tightly to every second you are given, and not let concerns about the situation get in the way. Or you would regret it, for so long as you lived after, I think.
You should live in a way where you will never have those sorts of regrets. So...I will be wishing you both all the best.
[Korra reaches for Sonia's hands, curling her hands around them with a smile of quiet gratitude.]
Thank you. I'm--still trying to get used to the idea, but I'm going to fight to keep it. Not just what I have with Conner, but my friendships with everyone here, like you.
8/18 action idk we can throw the birthday exchange in here + conner kiss
She'll check the block first, and then move outwards from it, since she can't simply call and ask, with the phones glitching out. ]
Korra?
sounds good!
Ahem.]
Uh--Sonia! Hey. [No, she's not nervously fidgeting or anything, why do you ask.] D-did you need something?
no subject
Er, I was just out and about and saw...are you quite all right?
no subject
[Korra can feel her face reddening already, and she ducks her head slightly, avoiding Sonia's gaze like a pro.]
no subject
Did something happen?
no subject
Um. [That second's worth of hesitation is probably incriminating as it is.] ...no?
no subject
...I would ask if it were something bad, but you were smiling.
no subject
Wait, you--you were going to say something earlier! [Korra clears her throat.] So, what was it?
no subject
Oh! I ran into Conner earlier. I just wanted to make sure you had, as well.

Sonia nods, once, even as she considers Korra. ]
Yes, I was just hoping to see you - well, happy. Again.
[ ............but that aside. Sonia will connect the blatant dots, here. ]
Something happened with Conner?
1/3
Wait, how did you--
2/3
...she just gave herself away, didn't she.]
3/3
She's just going to hide her face in her hands now. Please don't look at her.]
no subject
So - what was it that happened? Or is it a secret?
no subject
[It's a little muffled, what with her hands still covering her face. But she peeks up at Sonia after a second.]

[ No further. That many times...was enough. ]
no subject
But she can change the subject again, to something a little lighter, hopefully.]
Well. [She coughs.] Now that we've talked about my love life, it's only fair we talk about yours, right?
1/2
[ SONIA, where did you think this was going, honestly? ]
