The day the doctors came, many people refused and were shot. Was that what happened to you...? You do not have to say. Um...I think some people also stole a van, and died in that. But either way, apparently some of our number also took the doctors hostage, and...questioned them. After Yao Corporation found out, they broadcast a demand we turn over the hostages to them, and told us to send them our terms for negotiation...

[ Basically: Haven went crazy. ]

No...I took the medicine and left after that.

[Listening to Sonia's fretting sure does make her feel guilty. Tracking down Pyramid Head had gotten her and Percy killed...yet, she can't make herself regret doing it if it helps at all. But she'd dragged Percy and Annabeth into it. Her thoughts would have continued going round and round in this circle longer if she didn't catch something strange in Sonia's report.]

Wait. All this happened in one day?

[Fighting over the shots, kidnapping the scientists, getting a broadcast from Yao Corp.. apparently she's missed a lot while she was out.]

Um...no. It has been nearly four days since I called you; I am not certain how long you were...deceased before then.

[ So it was more like in...two days...

...That doesn't make it any better. ]

I should also mention that the...questioning led to some important information those persons shared with us after. [ pause questioning = torture ] Namely that the "medicine" was in fact drugs to keep us docile and tracked. Apparently they were pumped through the old apartment building on the regular, and they had to move everyone so quickly they had no way to set up the system...so all the illness from before was...withdrawal.

Seriously? [Now she sounds more like her old self.] I mean, I guess that explains a lot, but...wow. That's why some of us didn't get that sick, we weren't as used to having the drugs around like the others were. You were right, Sonia, it really was because of the move, just like you guessed.

[Korra falls silent for a second.] So, what now?

...Well, they, um, accepted the terms that were put forth by the majority. I do not know the fate of the scientists who were given back as yet, but...

The terms that were agreed to were as follows: plumbing and electricity within our housing blocks, small deliveries of medicine and food, the..."Pyramid Head" creature staying only by the convenience store - which makes it harder to sneak in there, but at least he's not...everywhere.

Oh, and one further thing.

[ She switches functions and holds up a coin, a decidedly wry expression on her face. ]

I am told this is "Dr. Kite's head".

[If this were any other situation, Korra might have even found the coin funny. But it's not, they're just taunting them--

At least they'll the plumbing and electricity now. Food and medicine are always welcome and...that's when the rest of it really hits.]

What--that part about Pyramid Head, can you say that again?

[Korra can hear her voice shaking, and she hates it, but she has to know.]

[ That was all Sonia had wanted to show the other girl, so she switches functions as well, slipping the coin back into her pocket. ]

That...creature seems to be staying directly outside of the convenience store. It has not moved, and does not seem inclined to give chase, though it would assuredly attack any who felt like trying to enter the store or attacking it.

[There's stunned, hurt silence on Korra's end before she forces herself to speak a couple seconds later.]

So basically... [A whisper is all she can manage right now.] You guys asked for that in exchange for the hostages. And Yao Corp gave in because they can afford to. Or maybe [She laughs, low and strangled.] Pyramid Head bothering us didn't even mean anything to them in the first place.

It didn't matter what he was doing.

That's--[Her inhale of air comes in shuddering gulps.] I...I have to go. Thanks for checking up on me.

[and click, she hangs up. She can't deal with this right now.]

[ Sonia's a little startled and worried at that. And really, she had voted to keep the hostages, on the basis that...well, handing them over to die wasn't something she could do, and she had been legitimately startled when any demands were met.

That reaction spoke of something more than just being upset about the exchange, though she's not sure...why. Clearly she's going to have to seek Korra out later, at some point. ]
