You and Steve. [The stubbornness is catching...not that Korra has any room to talk, but whatever. Details.] I don't care if there's something else going on--promise me you'll call someone the next time you get hurt.
[Korra doesn't like it when people take chances with their bodies, especially now that the revival machine has been broken. She suddenly frowns at the bandages.]
[Well, that explains it. Korra just shoots Nadia a grin.]
Pretty cool.
[Not when she's seeing the blood because of an injury, though. That is not so cool. Korra reaches for the water skin at her side and draws the water out, placing the bubble against the injury for a scan.]
[It's relaxing, in a way. Better than some of the treatments at home, but the blame mostly lies with the foul smelling potins she has to drink.]
I'll have to tell my sister about it when we all go home. She's an elementalist, but I've never seen anyone doing something like that. Healing has always just been... Healing.
It's pretty cool, hearing about all the different powers, isn't it? Even if there's other healing powers, I think my world's the only one that uses water for it so far. [Korra smiles as she works. A look at the leg tells her it is a little infected, like Nadia had said, but it's not bad enough to worry.]
So, your sister has do stuff with elements, and you can make illusions. What else can the people in your world do?
Sounds a lot like someone I know. [Korra barely suppresses the smile. She's burned away the infection--so to speak--and now works on mending the skin together.]
[Her leg is starting to feel better already and she relaxes]
Mhm... It's strange if you're born Human and can't do magic, actually. This is the first place I've ever really talked to people who can't or have seen someone who can with red blood...
They seem to manage alright, which is surprising to me... We've always been taught some awful things about those without special abilities, but they're some of the loveliest people I've ever met. [Nadia fully realizes how ignorant that sounds, but she's never been put in a position like this before. If they weren't in a city full of murder, she would probably love it, with all the people, their worlds, and backgrounds.]
I would love to see the places everyone is from, anyway, and what they're like. I bet their homes are beautiful.
[Nadia goes quiet for a second, too, a brief flicker of sadness behind her eyes. She thinks about that a lot, what will happen when this is all over. Will she get to keep seeing her boyfriend? Will they even go home? Is she still going to be sick?
There are so many questions and no answers to be found. She picks at the frayed edge of her sleeve.]
I hope so... There are a lot of things I want to know, but... [She thinks back to what Jack said, at the end of the their time underground and can feel her stomach twist into knots.] There was actually something I wanted to ask, ahm... Not just you, but other healers. About the kind of magic and medicine that's used where you're all from?
[Korra can sense the change in Nadia's mood, and she quickly looks up at her.]
It's okay. I know the water-healing isn't something you see a lot, so... [With a shrug, she pulls her hands away, leaving a gash that's freshly scabbed over.]
I think this is the best I can do, but it's closed up now and the infection's gone. The rest shouldn't take too long to finish healing.
Thank you. [Nadia smiles faintly, looking down at her leg before tucking it close. At least she won't have to worry about infection, potentially losing it, or all sorts of other nasty things.
She bites her lip, trying to think of how to phrase this. Her health is not something she willingly shares and the only time she has, it was after she died the first time. That had been a special circumstance. But if they win and get to go home, but don't get their hands on the Yao technology that can keep her from being sick...
She needs a back-up plan. She wants her future.]
It's, ahm... Mostly I was wondering about -- about terminal illnesses. I mean, I know by the very definition asking is probably silly, but... but how far can your healing go to bring someone back? To keep them from, ahm... to give them time?
[Korra sits back, wondering if she's not going to like where this is going. Probably.]
Our healing is... all it does it speed up the recovery process, redirecting the energy in someone's body to where it needs to go. Sometimes we can save a life because we deal with the injury before it gets too bad, but... if it's fatal, there's nothing we can really do about it.
I don't know how the magic in your world works--it might be different for the healers there, you know? If you wanted to work with the healers from home, you should probably ask one of them how their power works.
[Shaking off that initial worry, Korra lifts her hand again.]
Want me to check if you have any other injuries? I've...sort of gotten into the habit of checking whenever I heal someone now.
[Nadia jumps slightly at the touch, fidgety and nervous.]
Oh... How about, ahm, next time we do a supply run to Haven North, I can ask you about it? I can -- I can write your answers down that way, not forget anything...
[Something about Nadia's behavior is making her suspicious, but there's nothing wrong with what she's saying, either. Korra hesitates, then finally waves her off.]
It's no problem. We'll figure out a time to get to Haven North together, alright?

Is your blood...blue?
no subject
Yeah... It's normal where I'm from, trust me. All magic users have blue blood at home.
no subject
Pretty cool.

You can heal with water?
no subject
We use the water to sense the energy pathways in the body and speed up the healing.

no subject
Yeah, Margot can control all four of them, but she's the best with fire. [So the best it's terrifying.]
Lots of stuff, really. Charms, healing... I know a boy that can find almost anything and lose it again. We each of us have our own specialties
no subject
And you're all just born with powers like those?
no subject
Mhm... It's strange if you're born Human and can't do magic, actually. This is the first place I've ever really talked to people who can't or have seen someone who can with red blood...

Haven's not so bad for people like us, who're used to seeing powers, but it must be weird for people who don't have powers in their world at all.
no subject
I would love to see the places everyone is from, anyway, and what they're like. I bet their homes are beautiful.

[Korra's quiet for a moment.]
Maybe after we take down Yao Corp, we could... I don't know, try to take a look at everyone else's worlds.
[She'd like to, anyway, if there's no risk.]

Why're you asking?
no subject
Oh, I was -- I considered working with healers back home. Not that my magic is good for it, but... It was just a curiosity, that's all.
no subject
I don't know how the magic in your world works--it might be different for the healers there, you know? If you wanted to work with the healers from home, you should probably ask one of them how their power works.

[Nadia is also quick to shake her head.]
Oh, no. Not necessary, but thank you@ I, ahm... I actually probably should let you get back to work, anyway.
no subject
If you think it'll help the healers in your world, I wouldn't mind talking to you about the healing I'm used to.
no subject
Oh... How about, ahm, next time we do a supply run to Haven North, I can ask you about it? I can -- I can write your answers down that way, not forget anything...

You sure you're okay?
no subject
I'm fine! Just, ahm, tired still from everything that happened. [She's on her feet, flashing another small smile.] Thank you, Korra. I mean it.

It's no problem. We'll figure out a time to get to Haven North together, alright?
