I won't, I promise. [The grin turns into something softer as Korra realizes the trust Rose is putting in her.] Dating's still pretty new for me, too, let alone, you know... the other stuff. At least you're not alone in that.

[She stumbles over her words a little. While she's not shy in her actions when it comes down to it, talking about it with someone else isn't something she's used to. It still trips her up.]

So...Barnes. Bucky, right? It is the one with the metal arm or the other one?

[ She laughs. ]

Oh, the other stuff's not new to me. My mom worked in the business.

[ Her mother's alive, she's sure, but Rose has been using past tense for so long she doesn't even notice. It's the trust in another human being that's terrifying. ]

So it's the...dating, or something like it, that's new.

[In a way, Korra doesn't find it all that surprising. Rose herself had implied she didn't have many people to be close to a while ago.]

That Bucky. I know him a little. He sort of walked in on one of my lessons with Tim--this guy that lives in the same apartment block as me. I've been trying to teach him a few things, since he and his brother doesn't know how to fight at all.

[ Softly, ] Yeah.

[ It's okay to share weakness with friends. Korra, like Steve, is one of those people who'd rather die than betray you, but it's still not something Rose can do easily. ]

Walked in... and?

[Korra scoots closer, wrapping one arm around Rose's shoulder.] It's scary, but it's...nice. Worth it if you find someone you really connect with and you can trust.

[Hmm. Maybe she should take a closer look at this Bucky, on second thought...]

He walked in and...laughed. Tried to teach Tim a few things, too, since he thought Tim was doing so badly.

[ It takes a moment, but she leans in, smiling weakly. ]

You know what, I'd really rather take the world-destroying crap.

[ She raises her eyebrows. ]

You need a hand with this guy?

[ because she's not missing out an opportunity to tease Tim about this. ]

[Korra laughs. She knows that feel, bro.]

Dealing with crazy criminals does seem easier than dealing with relationships sometimes, doesn't it?

[She gives a thoughtful hum.] With Tim? I guess it's up to him if he wants more teachers. We don't want to scare the guy away.

My relationships with other people usually fall into the realm of "I will beat the shit out of you", and "who the hell are you calling a psycho bitch?" [ a soft chuckle ] Actually those two aren't really that far apart. I'd probably scare this guy too, but we can't just assume that's a bad thing.

[Korra leans her head against Rose's, smiling.]

Sounds pretty straightforward. Where does ours fit into all of this?

And...I dunno. [Korra chuckles, too.] I think the two of us at the same time might be a little too much for him.

[ Rose gives her a grin that says we totally would. ]

I would punch you if you turned evil?

[ She laughs. ]

Go easy on me. I only had like... one friend before I got here.

[Korra holds back a laugh.] The...feeling's mutual? And it depends on what you want me to go easy on.

Just so you know, you're not getting out of the hugs so easily.

The hugs you aren't getting out of either.

[ She might not look like it, but Rose enjoys physical affection. ]

I guess we'll just learn what things as we go along. [ she elbows Korra playfully again, then, more seriously, ] Have there been any babies?

Conner and I haven't gotten that far-- [Korra clarifies quickly, cheeks heating up a little.] We just talked about it. Um.

I don't think there have been any babies. Not for the people from other worlds, like us. It's different for the natives.

[Otherwise young people like Jessica wouldn't exist. So she's pretty sure.]

There's this one woman who showed up here recently. They brought her here almost right after she gave birth. It's almost like they waited or something.

[ Rose grins, mischievously, it fades as Korra continues. ]

Yeah, how creepy is that. [ a beat ] I mean, obviously they have a vested interest in making sure we don't get sick, but dying's fine?

I think that's changed...maybe. Since whatever was reviving people isn't working anymore.

No one from Yao corp's bothered to show up since Kite was killed, though. I guess it's too much to hope that they're too busy squabbling over who gets to fill in his spot to bother us for a while.

It'll keep them busy for a little while.

[ But that means whatever comes, when it does, it'll be bad. Rose sits up. ]

Come on, let's not worry about that right now.

[Korra follows suit, straightening up.]

To be honest... I was sort of worried about the uh, baby thing, too. I guess that's why I sort of...reacted when you asked.

[Because it was on her mind and all.]

[ She gets a playful nudge. ]

Hey, I don't blame you. There's no way to get adequate protection around.

[Korra pauses.]

Actually... my friend said she could do something with her magic, make some charms that could help with that? I'm still getting the metal for the charms, but I could get one for you if you wanted.

[ Her first reaction, instant and visceral, is no - no, nothing that changes her in a way she doesn't understand and can't control, no, never again. ]

[ She takes a shaky breath. ]

No, thanks.

[The reaction isn't one that's easily missed. Korra immediately shifts closer.]

Bad experience?

[ Rose closes her eyes, and then she leans against Korra's shoulder. She has one friend, an unacceptable weakness, but sometimes they were necessary. If you wanted to be human. She's not sure she has the right to that word - she doesn't even believe her own redemptive story a lot of the time - but she made a promise to Korra. Rose or Ravager, she keeps her word. ]

Yeah. Even if it can't screw with you, you keep thinking about all the ways it could. I'll manage.

[Korra wraps an arm around Rose's shoulder and leans her head against her friend's. It's easier for Korra, being close to Zatanna like she is, but Rose doesn't have that kind of reassurance.]

Sorry... I thought it would help. Is it... all kinds of magic?

It's okay.

[ It's okay not to lash out. It's okay to admit weakness to friends. ]

You don't really know how something'll affect you til you think about it, yeah?

Yeah...I guess not.

[Korra can see how Rose would be leery of anything that she wasn't familiar with, after what had happened with her father and the drug.]

Maybe the library will have something, another way to get around this.

[She wants Rose to have some happiness, too, okay.]
